VANCOUVER, Canada—I’m sitting in a “French” bakery and I don’t taste the croissant. It doesn’t have any flavour. I’m guessing because it’s not made with butter.

I see a photo of Audrey Hepburn in Paris and I feel oddly comforted. She said that “Paris is always a good idea.”
